The Practical Application of Gratitude

As I began to understand the importance of gratitude, I wondered about the practical application of it. Whenever I learn about or read about a new technique. The first thing that always comes to my mind is “how do I apply this to my everyday life?”

The three techniques that evolved in my practice were:

  • Gratitude journal
  • “Stop and Do”
  • Recording

I found that the keys to all the techniques are that they can be done in a short period of time, they are easy to do and that they are rewarding.

The gratitude journal can be done in 5 to 10 minutes while the “Stop and Do" technique can be done in 5 to 10 seconds. I am always amazed as to how effective these techniques can be.

The recording is a much more specific process, and generally takes 10 to 20 minutes. We have used it for both specific therapies such as chemotherapy, but it can also be used for general illness or general wellness. Kim's story is described in detail to illustrate how effective this technique can be.
